Chiropractor Tamara Chan D.C.
Dr. Tamara Chan is a SW Calgary Chiropractor at Full Potential Chiropractic.
Since the age of three I had planned on becoming a medical doctor. My favorite toy was my Fisher-Price doctor kit, where I was the life-saving doctor and my brothers were the unwilling patients. The view of my role in the health care field transformed while sitting in my “Sociology of Health and Illness” class. We were reading a journal article where a physician described the difficulties with the modern practice of medicine:
“… sometimes it feels like this. There I am standing by the shore of a swiftly flowing river and I hear the cry of a drowning man. So I jump into the river, pull him to shore and apply artificial respiration. Just when he begins to breathe there is another cry for help. So I jump into the river [again], pull him to shore and apply artificial respiration … back in the river again and again goes the sequence. I am so busy jumping in, pulling them to shore, and applying respiration that I have no time to see who is upstream pushing them in.”
My health care paradigm shifted from disease and reactivity to one of pro-activity and wellness, which guided me through my studies at Parker University, College of Chiropractic. I graduated magna cum laude, salutatorian (second highest GPA in the class) and received National Board of Examiner scholarships throughout my schooling.
Always interested in furthering my knowledge, I incorporate the most up-to-date techniques for the benefit of my patients. During school I studied under Dr. Michael Hall, DABCN, FIACN and attended seminars to become a Certified Clinical Chiropractic Neurologist (CCCN). I enjoy working with patients of all ages, with a special interest in pediatrics and pregnancy. I began receiving chiropractic care at 10 years of age for debilitating headaches that had me taking pain medication daily and experienced first-hand how it revolutionized my life. I have taken over 180 hours of continuing education with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and am Webster Technique Certified.
My chiropractic career began in 2008 when I worked with Dr. DJ LeDrew as a Chiropractic Assistant and it has come full circle. I am thrilled to join Full Potential Chiropractic in optimizing the health of Calgarians through moving well, eating well and thinking well.
